Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe Attack On Friday, April 12, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) obtained a three-day transit remand for the primary suspects, one of whom is believed to be the mastermind, from a metropolitan court in Kolkata in connection with the Rameshwaram Cafe IED blast case in Bengaluru. The NIA team apprehended the two accused, Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa, near Kolkata on Friday morning.
“The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended the two fugitive terrorists, one of whom is believed to be the mastermind, in connection with the Bengaluru café blast case. The NIA successfully located their hideout near Kolkata in West Bengal, concluding a month-long search for the duo,” stated the NIA in an official announcement.
Prior to their appearance in the metropolitan court on Friday, the two suspects involved in the Bengaluru cafe blast case underwent medical examinations at a state-operated hospital. Following this procedure, they were escorted to Bankshall court for the transit remand proceedings, as confirmed by a lawyer representing the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
An official disclosed to news agency PTI that Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa, the two accused individuals, underwent a medical examination at Bidhannagar State General Hospital. This step was taken as part of procedural protocol.
Purba Medinipur SP Soumyadip Bhattacharya confirmed that the NIA and West Bengal Police collaborated in the apprehension of the duo.
According to a statement from the NIA, Mussavir Hussain Shazib was identified as the individual responsible for planting the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the cafe, while Adbul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa was recognized as the mastermind behind the attack.
On March 1, an IED explosion shook the Rameshwaram cafe situated on ITPL Road, Brookefield, Bengaluru, resulting in injuries to numerous customers and hotel staff, with some sustaining severe wounds. The blast inflicted significant damage to the property.
Assuming control of the investigation on March 3, the NIA offered a reward of ₹10 lakh for any information leading to the apprehension of each of the two suspects.

- The NIA apprehended Adbul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa and Mussavir Hussain Shazib near Kolkata, West Bengal, sparking a verbal dispute between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling Trinamool Congress.
- The suspects, operating under false identities, were traced to a hideout near Kolkata, with Adbul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa identified as the mastermind behind the blast’s planning and execution, while Mussavir Hussain Shazib was responsible for placing the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the cafe, as per the NIA.
- The successful operation was facilitated by coordinated efforts between the NIA, central intelligence agencies, and state police agencies of West Bengal, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala, the NIA stated.
